Operating Engineers Advisory Council not in support of Path 2

As unbelievable as it seems, the TSSA is using a low weight survey in the midst of a global pandemic to substitute for the public consultation promised for the Alternate Rules, Path 1 and Path 2.

Alternate rules for the Operating Engineers regulation are intended reduce the regulatory burden on businesses and maintain or enhance public safety. Plant owners have the option to comply with the current regulation or opt-in to one of the safety paths outlined in the alternate rules. TSSA is seeking your feedback through this online survey of the alternate rules.

While most Canadians can work from home or just stay home to protect themselves from contracting COVID-19, Power Engineers who work in industries that must operate on a 24hr basis cannot. The IPE fully supports the recommendations of the WHO for keeping individuals safe and we suggest the following “Best Practices” for those who work rotating shifts

TSSA will be seeking comment on proposed Alternate Rules for the Operating Engineers (OE) regulation this spring.

The Ontario Government, Ministry of Government and Consumer Services and the TSSA have presented to the Operating Engineer Advisory Council (OEAC) for comment. The IPE has provided the OEAC the opinion of the profession regarding the proposed Path 2 option.
