The newly re-opened Hamilton Branch of the Institute of Power Engineers had its first social gathering as a holiday dinner at Barbara’s Cafe located on Barton Street in Stoney Creek, Ontario.
The event was attended by 22 people with 6 members, 14 student members and 2 guests. We invited Mr. Norm E. Stinson to present him with his “Life Member” award and he gave a speech aimed at the important role that the IPE plays in support of power engineers in Ontario and across Canada. He also took the time to engage with all our students present to share his experiences both as an operating engineer and interaction with the profession as an IPE member.
The evening was very enjoyable with a great Italian meal of salad, antipasto, choice of a selected main including lamb, veal and perch with a delicious dessert to close off the dinner. Everyone had a nice time and there was much conversation on the power engineering program at Mohawk, employment opportunities and some of the experiences we’ve had in our careers.
Thanks to Ruslan Lebed, Jen Rubio, Ross Farrant and Gerry Harrett for the organization of the event. We look forward to bigger and better in 2020.
