About the Small Gas Turbine Users Group
About the Group

There are now over 30 combustion gas turbine generators in the 1 – 20 MW range operating in continuous-duty mode throughout Ontario. Some of these generators have been operating since the early 1990's, whereas some are being installed right now (and, depending on how the June election goes, some may be installed in the future).

All present, future and potential small gas turbine users are challenged by the following:

  • Maximizing availability and reliability
  • How to operate? (When is the cost to make power less than the cost to purchase power?)
  • Is CO2 compliance and cap and trade a real threat to gas turbine CHP?
  • Should the GTGs be operated islanded (or operate islanded more) given the rising cost of remaining power purchased?

We invite you
to attend a one day small gas turbine users group meeting, in order to:

  • Network with other small gas turbine users who face the same challenge as you do.
  • Meet with your OEM Field Service Representatives.
  • Learn how you can run your gas turbine and also reduce CO2 emissions.
  • Learn whether you should only run your gas turbine(s) to reduce GA costs.

The morning session will be dedicated hearing from the experts in emissions reductions and Ontario's Cap and Trade Program.

In the afternoon, users will split into two groups and meet with their OEM Field Service Representative (Solar Turbines or Siemens Gas Turbines).

At the end of the day, we will gather together to listen to a roundtable discussion with current gas turbine users and hear some of the problems and challenges they face.
